You don't need an AI strategy to join this one

Hi Reader,

When I help teams build their AI strategy (an AI policy, governance, some structure around how they use it), one thing surprises them more than anything else. I hear it in almost in every engagement:

"This wasn't so much about AI. It made us look at how we do our work in general."

And they're right. Most of the time in those sessions goes to how work gets done: who decides, who checks, how information moves, and what happens when two people disagree. Those rules were there before. But they lived in people's heads or as informal habits that everyone half-knew. The AI conversation brings them out, and for many teams it's the first time they agree on them out loud.

So even if AI isn't changing much in your work right now, or you don't use it at all, I'd like to invite you to the conversation.

Change is everywhere

AI is one change. There are plenty of others: a new product, a new project, a merger, an office in a new country. Each one shifts the way work gets done, and that changes what the work asks of people.

The same change can energize one person and exhaust another. A new market launch excites someone who loves building from zero. It drains someone who does their best work improving what already exists. That difference has less to do with skills and more to do with energy.

What we'll talk about

On October 8, I'm hosting a 60-minute live session called Beyond AI Adoption: Redesigning Work for Human Impact. We'll use the GC Index®, which measures how people are energized to make an impact. It looks at five proclivities:

  • Game Changers generate new ideas and possibilities
  • Strategists make sense of ideas and map the direction
  • Play Makers bring people together and get them working as a team
  • Implementers turn plans into results
  • Polishers make things better and raise the standard

Before the session, you'll complete a 10-minute questionnaire. Your answers build a live, anonymized team profile, and we'll read it together. We'll look at what that mix of energy means when the work changes, and at how to use it in development plans, team design and performance conversations.

The details

Thursday, October 818:00 Israel | 17:00 Central Europe | 11:00 ET | 8:00 PTOnline (Zoom), free

Up to 30 participants can get their own personal GC Index® report at no cost (it's normally $300). I'll explain how to qualify at the end of the session.

What's changing in how your team works right now, whether it's AI or something else? Hit reply. I read every one.

Cheers,Daria

P.S. If you know someone whose team is going through a merger, a launch or a reorg, forward this to them. The session is built for exactly that moment.

Hi Reader, What do you feel when you open your computer in the morning? So many leaders I coach say they feel tired, even in the morning. While others say they feel energized and happy doing the work. AI was supposed to help with the tired part. It saves time and makes us more efficient. Still, a lot of people don’t feel helped. They feel it gives them more work and pushes them to deliver faster, bigger, more. Why? Every job needs a certain kind of energy, whatever your title is and whatever...

Hi Reader, Have you ever thought of how your team makes decisions? Or is it just you? Or maybe your boss? When we think about decision-making, we often think about the process, the framework, the trade-offs, and the cost of delay. But do we really notice who makes a decision? And what’s the cost when decisions start to follow the style of whoever is at the top? Decision Design In the latest Built by People Leaders episode, I talk with Kylee Ingram, co-founder and CEO of Wizer, about why...

Hi Reader! 12 months ago, everybody was asking the same questions: How can I make my team use AI? How do I scale AI adoption? How can more people in my organization try AI? Now they're asking different questions. Teams are using AI here and there. Personal tools, corporate tools. Everybody is probing and testing. Company-wide adoption isn't the question anymore. The question is: how do we make sense of AI? When AI does part of the job, it changes the way we work in three ways. The first is...
